Major General Timothy David Hyams OBE

Tim Hyams was commissioned into the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards (now The Royal Dragoon Guards) in 1986. His early service was spent in Germany and on operations in Northern Ireland. More recent operational experience has seen him deploy to the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan. For his work in support of operations in Afghanistan, Tim was awarded the OBE.

More broadly, he has served in the Ministry of Defence and fulfilled personnel-related roles at Army Headquarters and the Army Personnel Centre. On promotion to Major General in 2016, he was appointed as General Officer Commanding Army

Recruiting and Training Division. He then served as Director Land Warfare, before assuming the posts of Military Secretary and General Officer Scotland in 2019. His time as a senior officer has seen him lead and manage organisations with mixed civilian and military workforces, with responsibility for high profile programmes and commercial partnerships.

Tim is Colonel, The Royal Dragoon Guards and Honorary Colonel, The Queen’s Own Yeomanry. With experience as a trustee for a number of charities, he previously was a school governor.

He is married to Kitty, with two sons: Paddy is a rugby coach; Ollie is an Officer in The Royal Dragoon Guards.
